The volume just arrived - perfect condition.....
I went to my first sports car event in 1955. At the last Pebble, and first Laguna on, here in Northern California, I "grew up" with the
sport. Along the way, I built a wonderful library of autosport books, a really substantial library, including the likes of Pomeroy's
"The Grand Prix Car, and "The Scuderia Ferrari", and "The Immortal 2.9", and Klem's Aston and Ferrari books, and Coltrin and John Wyer ....
and you know what I mean. Among all of them, including the above, are simply beautiful, unforgettable works.
When I opened "Weekend Heroes", I knew in a moment that here is one of the very greatest, about a great time here,
so great we didn't realize in our adolescent enthusiasm how great it was. I thought my own memory held too rich a vault of those
times to be challenged! But this is simply the most evocative piece of history imaginable, and I can't find a way to encompass the
intensity of feeling I have as I go through this utterly amazing repository of West Coast color images and captions.
You have delivered a classic, and finally I have an heirloom which I will show our 18 year old, when he comes home between semesters at
University of Edinburgh, Scotland, and I can open "Weekend Heroes", and look at him as I say "This really is what it was like: the cars,
the followers, the women, the tracks, the whole amazing informality of it all".
Thank you, thank you .... D. Berelson

Received book via Collectors Carbooks......absolutely up to, and beyond, expectation.
So much so I`m seriously considering as my next library addition "Ottovu"... even though I probably can`t spell it correctly and certainly
don`t have a Fiat V8. Collectors currently don`t have copies. Do you?

| "Weekend Heroes" was delivered today. Thanks to your excellent packaging, the book arrived in near perfect condition. I do not have words to describe what a treasure it is! So far I've read very little, but I have turned quite a few pages enjoying the many wonderful images. A highly commendable work! Thank you for making this book available, and thank you for your great service. Please keep me informed of any of your future releases. Sincerely, D. Martin |

Hello Tony,
I've got a gent that I met over another car that I own, Ronnie Spain. He is a fellow author and historian on the Ford Gt40's. We were over at Grant's house last night and were looking through his library. Ronnie almost fell out of his chair when he saw your book....totally impressed. Can I get you to send him a book and dedicate it for me? I hope you still have them available.
Have a great day, Fred |

Tony.
I wrote you over a week ago but my computer was not wending the mail out. YES, I did receive the book and it is incredible. What a masterpiece. I am knocked out by the color and the overall layout. You should be very proud of a job that was done with obvious care and sensitivity.. Thank your for number fourteen

Tony,
The arrival of Weekend Heroes this afternoon in California, I want you to know, has totally ruined the rest of my writing day and will probably be the cause of my missing deadlines on more than several articles due to your book's sheer volume and utter magnificence plus my compulsion to devour every page, photograph and word without stopping. You have produced something of huge value to the sport and certainly to anyone who lived during that period and was in any number of ways a part of that sports car racing scene, in and out of the driver's seat, paddock prowler or spectator, press hound or wrench. It's a shame we cannot roust those dead who were alive then to now enjoy your book as much as the many survivors undoubtedly will. And for the newcomers, for those born after that year covered in your book's first chapter, this will be a priceless look into the shadows of life before theirs. Thank you for this great gift, and for asking me to contribute to its making. Among many others no longer here to voice their praise for what you have done, I know that my father John Edgar would cherish this unique work, as I most certainly shall.

Dear Tony:
Your wonderful book arrived today. As I remember you said that you had been working on it for years. It is truly a gem.
We look forward to working with you in the future. If by some chance you are in the Florida area let us know and we will give you a tour.

Today Tony's Weekend Heroes was introduced at the new premises of AutoNet carbooks in Wernhout, a small village near the Dutch Belgium border. What can one say? Tony has outdone himself again. Some 700 pages of the purest motorracing delight. The photographs show wealthy, mostly American, amateurs having the times of their lifes. The skyhigh production qualities of this book, done by a privateer at his own expense, puts most regular publishers at shame. The books' text consists of articles from period publications, a very nice touch. Anyone not getting this one is making a big mistake. No matter how much I like the new Facel Vega book, this is my book of the year. Bless you Tony!
Regards, Mick C.
Weekend Heroes arrived today, and very much worth the effort and wait. Wow!
I've had this book for a few days now. I was tearful and cheerful from the first few pages of photos. The venue and the era are very important to me, but the images are universally poignant, large, clear, and definitive. I just can't get enough of looking at those photos. Heaven for me.
Excellent reproduction, illuminating text, substantial personal- and technical-story contributions from those present at the beginnings of Southern California motorsport as we knew and loved it. And, a Mobil Pegasus figure key-chained to the spine!
I've found a couple of items where copy-edits could be justified, and I prefer to read mixed lower- and upper-case text, but wading through the all-caps presentation is rewarding beyond the sacrifice.
I am grateful for the effort and commitment that resulted in the publication of this book.
Frank S.
Today I received the newest book by Tony Adriaensens "Weekend Heroes". Seldom before I was as much stunned by color photography from the fifties as this time. It is a incredible collection of photos from the american racing scene of the fifties, the paper quality is great, most photo's were never published before, most are in color and last but not least: packed with Ferrari photographs.

TONY !!!
What a glorious labor of love !!!
Your book arrived perfect and safe yesterday. I just couldn't stop looking thru it right away. I got a spooky feeling looking at each photo and started reading Barlow's text. It's just like yesterday somehow that all this was happening. I will start and read everything now very slowly to savor every thought and photo. I want to look at every detail to see how much more I can recognize.
And I'm so honored to be credited with "portraits" of a number of drivers. And your technical processing of my old B/W negatives has made printed photos jump out so sharp! I thank you so much for your generosity in sending a copy to me. This volume will stand alone as the definitive publication on that once in a lifetime era here in Southern California.
Wonderful work! Bob Gurr
PS: I love the little Mobilgas chain tag. |

Do keep in touch, & if I can ever be of assistance in the future, please don't hesitate to contact me.
With very best wishes

Good Morning Tony,
May I say I am over-the-moon over the Book. You have done a magnificent and Herculean job of telling (and showing) what happened back when it was fun, exciting and heartbreaking to be doing all this stuff. It was great for me in a personal way, as all of the memorabilia saved over those years was lost back in the 70s’ when my house slid down the hill. Reading some of the articles brought back a rush of memories, mostly of the folks who left us back then and those who survived them.
The little keychain with the Mobilgas horse was a real jolt------but a good one, I might add.
Thank you also for the lovely inscription.
I understand Ruth is going to write a review-------It ought to be a CORKER!
Warmest regards, and congratulations for this beautiful work of art,
Linda Scott (La Petit Chatte) |

Tony , Received your book in yesterdays mail. I'm at a loss for words and superlatives to describe your work and research. All of the photos are outstanding in their reproduction. Your write up and research on the different races is outstanding .. plus. I'll be 88 years old next month and will spend many enjoyable hours reading and reliving those glory years. Sending my slides to you is the smartest thing I have ever done, keep them in your archive... you have written my legacy. Thank you for copy #501, it is my most precious possession.
Best regards, Al Long |
